Escape to Long Thin Farm – A Peaceful Farm Stay Near Stilbaai

Leave the rush behind and discover a place where life moves at nature’s pace.

Nestled on the scenic Goukou River, just 15 km from the coastal town of Stilbaai, Long Thin Farm is home to two charming self-catering cottages overlooking vineyards, olive groves, the river and rolling countryside. Set on a peaceful wine and olive farm, it’s a place where mornings begin with birdsong, days unfold at your own pace and time slows down.

Spend your days wandering along walking trails, kayaking on the Goukou River, enjoying a refreshing swim on a warm summer’s day or simply unwinding on your veranda as the landscape changes with the light. It’s the kind of place where you can truly switch off and reconnect with nature.

Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a family holiday or a peaceful escape with friends, Long Thin Farm offers warm country hospitality, beautiful surroundings and an authentic farm stay you’ll want to return to again and again.

Discover Long Thin Farm

Long Thin Farm is more than a place to stay; it’s a place to experience the outdoors, embrace the slower pace of country life and enjoy the natural beauty of the Goukou River valley.

Set across 23 hectares along the western banks of the Goukou River, the farm stretches through vineyards and olive groves into wide-open countryside. From your cottage, wander down through the olive grove to the river, follow the walking trails, watch the birdlife or simply find a spot to sit and take in the views.

The farm’s vineyard produces small-batch wines that reflect the character of this unique coastal growing region, including our award-winning Long Thin Farm Syrah Grenache Noir, recognised in the 2026 Platter’s Wine Guide. Alongside the vineyard, more than 500 olive trees and farm beehives contribute to our growing range of estate olive oil and honey, all available to purchase and enjoy during your stay or take home with you.

At the heart of Long Thin Farm are Philip and Fiona Couchman, whose passion for the land continues to shape the farm and the experience they offer guests.

Experience Life on the Farm

Long Thin Farm is a place to spend time outdoors and enjoy the simple pleasures of country life.

Wander through the olive grove, follow the walking trails, look out for birdlife or simply sit back and take in the views across the vineyards, river and surrounding countryside.

Just a five-minute walk through the olive grove, or a short drive, brings you to the Goukou River. Spend time on the water kayaking, swim on a warm summer’s day, enjoy a riverside picnic, or settle beneath the trees with a glass of wine and a good book.

There’s no need to fill every moment. Some of the best parts of a stay are the simplest ones: being outdoors, having time to explore and enjoying the freedom to do as much, or as little, as you like.

Explore Stilbaai & the Garden Route

While Long Thin Farm feels a world away from the everyday, Stillbaai is just 15 km away. Spend the day discovering its beaches, surfing, fishing, walking trails, cafés, restaurants and local markets before returning to the space and slower pace of the farm.

Long Thin Farm also provides a wonderful base for exploring the wider Garden Route, with its beaches, nature, outdoor activities and coastal towns.

Whether you spend your days exploring or stay close to the farm, you can enjoy the best of both worlds: the freedom to discover the coast and the opportunity to return to your own peaceful corner of the countryside.

Stone Cottage

Sue & Piers, 2022

We had a wonderful stay at Stone cottage which  is charming, set on the hillside with beautiful views of the farm and river. We spent our days kayaking and swimming in the river and enjoying the tranquility of the farm. At night we joined family in the main house for braais and pizzas in the inviting boma. Long thin farm truly is a special place and a beautiful retreat!
